David Woods is an acclaimed actor, director and playwright who immigrated to Australia from the UK in 2004.
For his work producing and starring in Die! Die! Die! Old People Die! he received the prestigious 2019 Herald Archangel Award in Edinburgh after a successful run at Artshouse Melbourne, Battersea Arts Centre in London and Summerhall in Edinburgh. David also co-created and appeared in the award-winning production Ganesh Versus the Third Reich for Back to Back Theatre. In 2018, David received glowing reviews for his work in Sarah Kane’s Blasted at Malthouse Theatre.
Not content to simply be a part of leading theatre company productions, David is the co-artistic director of Ridiculusmus, a multi-award-winning theatre company that has been producing seriously funny theatre for over 20 years. Productions include The Importance of Being Ernest, which was staged at Malthouse Theatre, Give Me Your Love, The Eradication Of Schizophrenia in Western Lapland, Yes Yes Yes and A Normal Child, which was a co-production with Disability Slapstick Plan.
On screen, David will play Craig in the upcoming television series’ The Newsreader (ABC) and Dr. Grayson in New Gold Mountain (SBS). Previous screen work includes The Gloaming (Stan),The Wrong Girl (Network Ten), Pacific Heat (Comedy Channel), The Secret River (ABC), Laid (ABC) and the acclaimed feature film Holding the Man.
David’s earlier theatre credits include A Flea in Her Ear and Pygmalion, for STC; Exit the King, for Belvoir; His Girl Friday, for MTC; A Social Service, for Malthouse; and The Chat, for La Boite.
